October 2023 - In recognition and support of Nunavut Inuit students who are pursuing post-secondary education in the Trades, Atuqtuarvik Corporation is pleased to offer a new scholarship for 2023. In honour and memory of the work of Dennis Lyall, who was a known and respected businessman in Taloyoak, and a long-time board member for Atuqtuarvik Corporation, we are pleased to remember Mr. Lyall with a scholarship in his name in the fields of study in Trades. The Dennis Lyall Memorial Trades Scholarship will award one scholarship annually in the amount of five thousand dollars ($5000).
Mr. Lyall was an advocate for bettering the lives of Inuit through economic development and utilizing the local, Inuit work force. He owned and operated Lyall Construction and Lyall Enterprise which held local contracts for heavy equipment services, water and sewage services, construction, and garage use in the town of Taloyoak for many years. He also established and managed Aqsarniit Ltd. which built and maintained the Boothia Inn, a strong hospitality business in Taloyoak. He was also a great family man, where he and his wife, Kristine Kamingoak Lyall, raised four children and had many grandchildren.
The purpose of the scholarships is to provide financial assistance to full-time students as they enter or complete their studies. Atuqtuarvik Corporation believes in investing in the education of our Nunavut Inuit students and looks forward to receiving applications for this new scholarship.
